Design

Whenever we consider change on a personal level, or find ourselves part of a broader organisational transformation, we naturally begin to think about intentional change; or rather, how it should be designed.

Design is a funny word. It usually connotes artistry and “the fluffy stuff”. It brings with it a sense of the superfluous. I find it interesting when design and designers are held in derision. It implies there’s some other, more important task.

If anyone is intentional about change or creation, has a plan and way forward (even though they expect that plan will change), and creatively addresses obstacles as they arise, while actually making that change in the world, are they not a designer?

Creating the future requires design. Design is intention. Design is dynamic. Design considers alternative solutions. Above all, design is the discipline of solving human needs. The challenges of today need all the designers we have, and more.

Are you ready to be a designer?
